ChatGPT in School: Finding the Right Balance

Hi There! Welcome to my blog, dear reader. Hope you are doing great! In this assignment, a 4-stage AI project was required. In the first stage, I conducted a 5-minute voice-chat with ChatGPT, and I will share its transcript with you. Our discussion was about the question: "Should students be allowed to use ChatGPT in school?" Then, I wrote a report about this topic. In the next stage, I sent my report to ChatGPT and asked it to provide feedback. In the final stage, I created a second draft based on the feedback it gave me. I used ChatGPT for both the voice chat and the feedback. It provided me with comfort for the voice chat and allowed it to be the exact kind of conversation I wanted. It was also useful for the feedback. In the future, I want to integrate AI in my classes, probably mostly for speaking practice. I would give homework based on speaking practice, and I want to encourage my students to practice speaking whenever they want.Of course, I will be careful when givin...

Goodbye for Now: A Blogging Brea

As we have now reached the end of the Instructional Technologies and Material Design in English Language course, I would like to share a final blog post about the end of the course and the semester. This course was one that I enjoyed attending and completing its tasks. It gave me many new perspectives and ideas in terms of technology. Before this course, I had weak knowledge about technology integration and the use of technology in teaching. However, after this course, I gained ideas in many areas such as blogging, podcast creation, and video editing. The assignment I enjoyed the most in this course was the collaborative film review writing. Since I was already doing something I enjoy, it did not feel like an assignment, and it also allowed me to collaborate with my friends. The assignment I liked the least was the infographic. Because I had to spend a lot of time in front of the screen, all the steps of the assignment required me to be on the screen, which was tiring for me. Blog wri...

Into the Unknown — Review: Nowhere

Hi there! Welcome to my blog, dear reader. I hope you are doing great! In this post, I want to talk about my new assignment and share what I have done. For this assignment, my friends Meryem Dilara Demirkaynak and Rümeysa Betül Demir and I were responsible for writing a film review. In this project, we worked together and shared different parts of the task to complete it. In this assignment, we were asked to write a film review in groups of three using Google Docs. After completing our reviews, we were also asked to exchange feedback and comment on another group’s work. In this post, I would also like to share with you the comments and feedback we received from the other group We chose the film Nowhere together, and after that, we divided the tasks and created this work together. Working with my peers was a good experience because it allowed us to exchange ideas and also helped us see different perspectives. Throughout the whole process, we stayed in contact with each other and exc...

PSA: Take Back Control of Your Life

Hi There! Welcome to my blog, dear reader. Hope you are doing great! In this post, I want to share another assignment with you guys and also talk about the whole process. I was assigned a Digital Storytelling project for this assignment. I collaborated with my classmate, Meryem Dilara Demirkaynak . We had three options for the project, and we decided to go with a Public Service Announcement (PSA). We wanted to make a video about phone addiction because it is one of the most important issues in the modern world. We are all spending too much time on our phones and becoming disconnected from our surroundings, which can lead to unintended consequences in our lives. To support our points and show the seriousness of this situation, we used official data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). At first, we were a little anxious about the project because we wanted to do our best and make sure everything was perfect. For the video, my friend and I filmed three different scenes. In each s...

Choose One to Ban

Hi There! Welcome to my blog dear reader. Hope you are doing great! I want to share the podcast that I was assigned and my thoughts about the experience. For this task, I collaborated with my classmate, Rüveyda Güçlüer . We decided to create a vox-pop, and our main question was: “If you could ban one thing in the world, what would it be?” We interviewed 10 people at Marmara University, and everyone gave unique answers. It was an enjoyable experience for us because talking to many people and hearing their different perspectives was really fun. At first, we had some concerns about possible technical problems, but everything went smoothly. We used Vocaroo and CapCut for recording, and the process did not take long. In my opinion, giving students a podcast assignment is very beneficial because it boosts communication, collaboration (as in our case), and creativity. In the future, I would love to assign podcast projects to my students. I believe that creating podcast content in English ...

Behind Every Screen Is a Real Person

Hi There! Welcome to my blog dear reader. Hope you are doing great! For this assignment, I was asked to create an infographic about an ethical or legal issue related to effective technology use. I chose and analyzed cyberbullying for this objective because it is very important, and it is an issue that requires everyone to be aware of and responsible for. It was my first time creating an infographic, so the process was a completely new and different experience. At first, since I had never been assigned or tried to create an infographic before, I was a bit scared and kept thinking, ‘Can I really handle this?’ I searched a lot and tried to gain new ideas. As I started figuring out how to manage this work, I felt more motivated. For this infographic, I used  Canva to design it and searched online to gain new ideas and inspiration. I see infographics as an effective way to express an idea, especially in English classrooms, because they are very catchy. Different fonts and colorful patt...

My Journey with 21st Century Learning and Technology

Hi There! Welcome to my blog dear reader. I hope you are doing great! In this blog, I want to share my ideas about 21st Century Learning and technology in English classrooms. 21st century learning is a modern approach to education. It emphasizes the importance of self-directed learning. This approach prompts students to create knowledge by themselves and make inferences from the information they gather. Thanks to this approach, in addition to being active learners, students can also use technology effectively in the classroom. 21st century learning supports the integration of technology in classrooms, enhancing both learning and creativity in the classroom. As a teacher candidate I see this approach very beneficial and I will gladly integrate it in my future classrooms. It is very important to keep up with innovations and modern developments in education. Integrating technology, which is the greatest and constantly evolving innovation of the modern world, into lessons helps students ...
